EPL Clubs Record Highest Transfer Spending In 5 Years

EPL Clubs Record Highest Transfer Spending In 5 Years
Thinking the January transfer window was boring and uneventful? Well, think again because as the unusually dull January transfer window closed at 11pm (GMT) in England on Monday, the English Premiership created a new transfer record.
BBC report that Stoke and Everton completed late big-money deals on Monday night to take January transfer window spending to a five-year high of £175m while finance experts, Deloitte report that English clubs have now for the first time ever spent over a whopping £1.045bn in just the 2015/16 season alone.
It may have been a quiet start to deadline day on Monday, but total spending in the whole of the 2015-16 campaign has already reached an eye-watering amount.
The previous record for a season was £965m in 2014-15.
ESPN quoted Dan Jones, partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte as saying on Monday just before the close of the transfer window, “We’ve seen Premier League clubs again use the January window to invest significantly in playing talent. With a day left, the total gross spending this season has already reached £1bn for the first time.”
